Waterway/Lock Closures
Waterway/Lock Closure Listings
Onslow Beach Swing Bridge, AIWW, North Carolina
Mariners are advised the Onslow Beach Swing Bridge, located across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) at Camp Lejeuene, North Carolina, will be undergoing demolition activities from April 10, 2026 through June 30, 2026. The demolition includes removal of the bridge's superstructure, substructure, and fender system. Work will occur Monday though Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays. During these times, the navigational channel will be restricted as follows:
From April 20, 2026 through June 30, 2026, during work hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., a crane barge wll be stationed in the navigational channel reducing the horizontal clearance (width) of the bridge. Vessels with beams less than 20 feet may transit the bridge at any time if safe to do so. Vessels not able to safely pass through should transit the area outside of working hours or between 12 noon and 1:00 p.m.
Vessels that cannot adjust their schedule may be allowed to transit during working hours by providing 24 hours' advance notice to the bridge tender at 910-440-7376. The bridge and work barges may be contacted on VHF-FM channel 13 when work is in progress or vessels are operating in the area.
Mariners should adjust their transit plans accordingly and navigate the waterway with extreme caution and due regard for prevailing conditions.
Erie Canal/Champlain Canal
All portions of the New York State Canal system are scheduled to open for navigation on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 8:00 am, except for Locks E-24 (Baldwinsville), E-25 (Mays Point), and CS-1 (Cayuga). Editor's Note: The locks that won’t be opening on May 15th are past where the Oswego Canal intersects with the Erie, meaning most Loopers will not be impacted. This will only affect those planning to cruise the Western Erie.
Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-24 in Baldwinsville and Lock E-25 in Mays Point, and Cayuga-Seneca Canal between the Erie Canal and Lock CS-1 in Cayuga are experiencing high water and navigation aids have not been placed. These sections of the Canal system will open once the water levels recede and buoys are placed.
The following locations on the Champlain Canal will have buoys placed during the week of May 18, 2026:
Champlain Canal
- Fort Edward Yacht Basin – Approach channel
- Lock C-11 in Comstock – Warning buoys and dam barrier
Spar buoys are currently in place on Onedia Lake. Navigational buoys will be placed as soon as maintenance crews are able to navigate through the system.
The boat barrier at the Court Street Dam, on the Genesee River, is currently not in place. It will be placed as flows recede enabling the hydro operator to install it.
Boaters navigating the Canal system should be aware of floating debris generated by recent rainfall and proceed with caution, at a "No Wake" speed as some debris may be hard to see.
Mariners are advised to check the Canal Corporation’s Notice to Mariners for the latest information and to plan their itineraries accordingly.

Champlain Canal: Locks C-1 through C-4
The New York State Canal Corporation announced the following update on 4/29/26:
Champlain Canal Scheduled Lockings and Double Draining
Lock C-1 in Waterford, Lock C-2 in Halfmoon, Lock C-3 in Mechanicville, and Lock C-4 in Stillwater will pass recreational vessels three times daily. Lock C-1 will pass northbound traffic and Lock C-4 will pass southbound traffic daily at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 2:00 pm. Locks C-2 and C-3 will pass traffic when the vessels arrive from Locks C-1 or C-4.
Additionally, these locks will operate on a "double draining" procedure. Each lock will be maintained in full condition and emptied twice during locking operations. For northbound traffic, the locks will be drained twice before traffic enters the lock chamber. For southbound traffic, the lock will be emptied and refilled once before the vessels are admitted into the lock for southbound passage. The second draining will occur with the vessels in the lock.
Vessels will not be permitted to moor overnight at the Lock C-1 and Lock C-4 approach walls.
The procedures at these locks have been implemented in accordance with the Canal Corporation and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) joint Rapid Response Plan enacted in 2022 to mitigate the spread of the round goby, an aquatic invasive species. This schedule is subject to change and boaters should stay tuned to future Notices to Mariners for changes.
Trent Severn Waterway, Canada
5/27/26-Parks Canada is pleased to confirm that the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site will fully open to navigation as planned on Friday, May 29, 2026. Following a temporary delay to the opening of Locks 42 to 45 due to high water levels and flows, conditions have improved sufficiently to allow navigation throughout the entire waterway.
Flows will continue to increase outside of navigation hours until further notice to balance water levels across the system. Conditions outside of navigation hours should be considered non-navigable. The increased flows are the result of dam adjustments required to manage higher-than-normal water levels. Additional fluctuations in water levels and flows may occur as water management operations continue and weather conditions evolve.
Residents and visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution on and around the water. Boaters are strongly encouraged to reduce their speed and minimize their wake to help protect shorelines, infrastructure and other waterway users.
Parks Canada continues to closely monitor conditions throughout the watershed and will provide updates as required.
LaSalle Causeway, Canada
AGLCA Note: This bridge is in Kingston and is between the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal. It will only affect those cruising a side trip on the Rideau Canal. It is not on the main Great Loop route.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has notified the public of an approved schedule for removals of LaSalle Causeway's temporary modular bridge, which will ensure navigation through the main channel into the Rideau Canal for taller vessels.
Please note that all openings, listed below are weather-dependent and subject to change. Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) encourages users to consult their public notices and X (Twitter) account for updates, and consult the PSPC LaSalle Causeway page for any schedule changes after business hours.
Passage under the east fixed portion of the LaSalle Causeway Bridge: Boaters with vessels under approximately 14 to 16 feet (4.27 metres to 4.9 metres) vertical clearance may continue to navigate through the East Fixed Bridge at all times, subject to current water levels. Two options are available to determine if a vessel meets clearance requirements under the east fixed portion of the LaSalle Causeway bridge, which is not experiencing any planned closures this season. The first is a physical water level gauge that displays the current height clearance once you arrive at the bridge, and the second is an electronic gauge, which is being reinstalled in the spring, that will make current clearance information available online for public access.
To view the Public Notice issued by PSPC, full schedule details, and additional information, please visit the PSPC website. For any questions related to the schedule, please contact Transport Canada at [email protected]. For trip planning or boater access information, visit the Rideau Canal’s LaSalle Causeway webpage or email [email protected].
