Great Loop Radio: An Update on Anchoring Regulations in Georgia
Our guest on this week's episode of the Great Loop Radio podcast is Scott Draper. Scott is the lobbyist hired by recreational boaters to help with a legislative fix to Georgia's restrictive boating regulations. Scott will have current information on the status of HB-833, the bill filed by Rep. Ron Stephens to reopen most of Georgia's waterways to anchoring and put Georgia's discharge rules in line with federal EPA requirements.
As we gear up for another Florida legislative session, we’ve been meeting with key legislators to discuss the recently passed anchoring laws. Some are asking about the impact of the new laws on boaters. We need your help answering that question.
In addition to the letters, calls, and emails to the Governor, our veto campaign includes social media videos highlighting the amount of money boaters spend in Florida.
The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that is bad for boating! HB 481 closes additional key areas of Biscayne Bay to anchoring for even one night. It also negates the requirement that the State regulate anchoring by allowing municipalities in the most populous counties to designate their own anchoring laws. This will result in a patchwork of rules that are hard for well-meaning boaters to follow.
