Great Loop Radio:

Join us this week as our guest, Kevin Ewbank of the Army Corp. of Engineers discusses the COE locks safety and maintenance. Listen here.

URGENT NOTICE!: The Ohio River is closed at Lock and Dam 52 (Mile 938.9). The best case scenario is that it reopens Sunday. If the "fix" they're working on proves unsuccessful Sunday, then the waterway will be closed an additional 18 - 24 days. Loopers should not proceed on the river system until this situation is resolved. There are very few save places to tie up in this area. We suggest not proceeding past Alton/Grafton/Port Charles, or perhaps even waiting in Peoria, or not leaving Chicago if you are still on Lake Michigan.

Chicago River Closure 9/30: The Coast Guard has established a safety zone on the South Branch of the Chicago River and Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in order to protect vessels and persons from the potential hazards associated with a rowing competition. The safety zone will be effective from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on September 30, 2017. Vessels will not be allowed to enter, transit through, or anchor within this safety zone without the permission of the Coast Guard Captain of the Port Lake Michigan or a designated representative.
