The Spring Rendezvous has two seminar tracks--The Route Track and the Looping 101 Track.  We're pleased to welcome back some favorite speakers and introduce you to a few new ones we think you'll like.

The confirmed Route Track sessions are as follows:
  • Chesapeake Bay - Foster Schucker and Susan Wilson
  • C&D Canal to Waterford, NY - Capts. Pat & George Hospodar
  • Waterford to Trenton, Ontario - David & Claudia Fuller
  • Trent Severn Waterway - Chad Buchner
  • Georgian Bay & The North Channel - Robin & Mike McKeown
  • Lake Michigan (Wisconsin Side) - Jim & Jan Donnelly
  • Lake Michigan (Michigan Side) - Ben & Laura Stein

The Looping 101 Track agenda has not yet been set.  We'll be polling those who register for the Rendezvous during the first week of registration to gather information on which topics you'd most like us to include.

You are free to choose which track you want to attend at the start of every session.  There is no need to sign up ahead of time for specific seminars.

To accommodate all of the expected Loopers who will come by boat, this year we have two "official" Marinas, Waterside Marina in Norfolk and Tidewater Yacht Marina across the river in Portsmouth.

Waterside Marina is in the middle of the action at the Waterside District, which features live (and sometimes loud and late) entertainment and several dining choices.  It's also a short walk from there to the meeting facility.  We'll be holding two Looper Crawls at Waterside Marina.  Rates at Waterside for our group are $1.50 per foot + $5 per day for 30 Amp or $15 per day for 50 Amp.

Tidewater Yacht Marina is a quieter option in the quaint town of Portsmouth. It is a short walk from there to the North Landing ferry stop, and then a short and inexpensive ferry ride to the meeting site.  We'll be holding one Looper Crawl at Tidewater Yacht Basin.  Rates at Tidewater for our group are $1/ft plus utilities.

Slip Reservation instructions: You will not be able to book a slip at Waterside Marina nor Tidewater Yacht Marina until you have registered for the Rendezvous.  During registration, you will be asked which marina you'd prefer and details about your boat.  AGLCA will collect that information and forward it to the marinas.  The marina staff will then call you to confirm.  Please be sure to follow this process to help us ensure registration goes smoothly.  The marinas will not accept your registration unless you are on AGLCA's registration list.

The host hotel and the site of all the seminars and meals is once again the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside which is a very short walk from Waterside Marina and the Waterside ferry stop.  A room block has been arranged with a group rate of $124 to $159 per night.

Click here to reserve a room in our block.

The room block closes at 5:00 p.m. eastern time on April 14th, so please don't wait to book your room.

Always a highlight of the Rendezvous, Looper Crawls take place in the afternoons where the activity moves from the meeting rooms to the docks.  Many of your fellow Loopers who are tied up at the marina will open their boats for others to tour.  It's a great opportunity to see many different Loop-capable boats in one place and get some great ideas for features you'd like to see in your own boat, if you're in the market.  It's also a fun social time!

Looper Crawls are scheduled as follows
  • Monday, May 6th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm at Waterside Marina
  • Tuesday, May 7th from 3:30pm - 5:30 pm at Tidewater Yacht Basin
  • Wednesday, May 8th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm at Waterside Marina

We do not yet know whether we will be able to offer members the option of purchasing tickets for the Looper Crawls without full Rendezvous registration.  This will be determined after registration has been open and we have a better idea for how big of a crowd we will be expecting.

We have a few new and exciting "pre-Rendezvous" events to share with you!  Two require pre-registration, so read on and plan to add the one(s) you want to attend when you register for the Rendezvous.

America's Boating Course - Fee: $40, limited to 50 attendees, pre-registration required

2 one-hour webinar sessions prior to the Rendezvous - Tuesday, April 30th & Wednesday, May 1st from 8:00 p.m. eastern until 9:00 p.m. eastern

In-person sessions from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5th and 9:00 a.m. - noon on Monday, May 6th

Join us as AGLCA Member Greg Kelso presents America's Boating Course.  The most comprehensive in-person boating course available, America’s Boating Course gives you the skills you need to enjoy your time on the water and boat with confidence. Taking a boating class reduces your risk of accidents and injuries, saves you money on boat insurance, and qualifies you for a state boat license or operator certificate in most states.  The USPS Operator's Card will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

There will be two, one hour webinar sessions in advance of the on-site session.  These are scheduled for 8pm eastern time on Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday, May 1st.  They will be recorded, so if you cannot attend the webinars live, you can still register for this course and review them at your leisure prior to the Rendezvous.

Bike Building for Charity - Free, but registration is required
Sunday, May 5th, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Join your fellow Loopers as we assemble bikes for children in need.  Curtis Stokes & Associates is sponsoring and planning this activity, and they'll be providing the bike kits.  Groups of Loopers will build them and then they'll be delivered to a local non-profit in Norfolk.  Details are still being planned.  Stay tuned!

Introduction to the Great Loop - No pre-registration required
Monday, May 6th, 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

This session will be presented by AGLCA's Director, Kim Russo, just before the "official" start to the Rendezvous.  All Rendezvous registrants are welcomed to attend. No pre-registration is required.  If you're already on the Loop, or if you've attended a Looper Lifestyle seminar or one of Kim's seminars at a boat show or TrawlerFest, this content may be a repeat of what you've already seen.  The seminar will include answers to frequently asked questions about the Great Loop, Great Loop stats, and an overview of the route through pictures submitted by Loopers.

Registration opens Monday, February 11th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

Fees: Rendezvous Registration is $375 per person and includes all seminars, three Looper Crawls, three lunches, and two dinners.

Overall event times
:  The "official" event begins Monday, May 6th at 2:00 p.m., but please plan to pick up your name badge and welcome materials any time between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. that day. There are a few optional pre-Rendezvous events. The Rendezvous ends with our Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 9th from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.  However, there is a schedule block of seminars following that to address concerns about Looping in 2020 when the Illinois River locks will be closed for maintenance.  That seminar block will end by 4:30 p.m.

Parking: On-site parking fee for guests at the Sheraton is $13 per day. Valet parking fee is $26 per day.

Elizabeth River Ferry: Whether you're "commuting" from Portsmouth for the Rendezvous sessions, or heading to Portsmouth for Tuesday's Looper Crawl, The Elizabeth River Ferry makes it an easy and inexpensive trip.  The ferry leaves North Landing in Portsmouth (the stop closest to Tidewater) every 30 minutes from 5:15 a.m. to 9:35 p.m.  From Waterside, the ferry leaves every thirty minutes from 5:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.  Expect the ride from Portsmouth to Waterside to take less than 10 minutes.  Expect the ride from Waterside to Portsmouth to take about 20 minutes.  Fares for the ferry are $2 each way (or $1 if you're over 65) or multi-day passes are available.
