June 2026 Great Loop Link
Ah, summer. For those of us on the northern portions of the Great Loop route, it can never come fast enough. We look forward to it for so many reasons—grilling burgers as the afternoon heat slowly fades into evening, spreading a beach towel in the sand while listening to waves crash along the shore, and, of course, finally getting the boat back out of winter storage.
For those of you headed toward Canada and the Great Lakes, don’t rush through New York State this season. America’s 250th Anniversary celebrations are already underway, and the Fleet of 2026 has an opportunity to witness a truly historic event: the Tall Ships Parade. Vessels from around the world are expected to participate, and it promises to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences you’ll remember forever. If you’ve already arrived in Lake Ontario, we encourage you to backtrack. Seriously.
If you’ve been following along with our Planning Guide Steps, this month focuses on Step 4 ~ Engage. You never really know what you don’t know, and connecting with other members gives you access to invaluable firsthand knowledge from people who share the same goal. Just as importantly, you’ll begin building friendships and connections that will serve you well once you’re underway. Whether you need an AGLCA Sponsor, a Harbor Host, or simply someone to laugh with after a day of “being the show”, those relationships start now—and it’s easier than you think.
For AGLCA, boating safety always remains one of our top priorities. This month, we’re sharing an article recently published on AGLCA Sponsor Aqua Map’s blog covering the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) and the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Even seasoned boaters can benefit from reviewing important safety information to help keep themselves, their crew, and others on the water safe—especially as we head into the busiest boating days of the year.
Did I mention summer is finally here? I did? Sorry… I’m just so excited!
As always, don’t forget to check out the most recent wake crossings. There’s nothing quite like celebrating fellow Loopers as they complete their journeys—and imagining the day you’ll make your own crossing.

Gerry & Tiffany Sherman, May 10, 2026
Congratulations to Gerry & Tiffany (and Ginger!), who completed their Loop on May 10, 2026 aboard their Silverton 43, Bobbin Along.
"Gerry, Tiffany, and first-mate, Ginger, completed our first Loop on May 10, 2026 in Hampton, VA, 367 days and 6,000 miles after starting. We came back very different boaters than when we left, working together as a team and continuously learning! Our Silverton 43 was the perfect boat for us to live on for the year. We entertained over 30 friends and family throughout the journey, at times having 6 people and our golden retriever living aboard! Countless Loopers shared docktails, meals, maintenance and route advice, stories and pictures with us! Our 'beauty meter' was pegged to the max with sunrises and sunsets, gorgeous tree-lined canals, rainbows, clear-blue, black and gray waters, views from the top of locks and dunes, funky-looking houses, starry nights and unexpected items on the riverbanks.
"We found every body of water to have its own unique characteristics! Our route included the East River and Long Island Sound, Trent-Severn, Lake Michigan (Michigan side), Gulf crossing, Florida Keys, Outer Banks, and the Dismal Swamp! We have cherished memories of small towns, big cities and so many 'firsts'! We ran into rough seas, dense fog, crowded waterways, open water where we couldn't see land, and through it all we persevered. Loopers are family on the water, each trying to make this journey the best it can be for ourselves and each other. Thank you to everyone we encountered for making this adventure a trove of memories that will be treasured forever! Thank you to Captain Sam for his patient training and the AGLCA for the most incredible resources before and during the trip! We would recommend this adventure to all who are contemplating! Do it now!!"

Congratulations to John & Terri, who completed their Loop on May 1, 2026 aboard their 35' Aspen C108, Captain Kidd II.
"We officially crossed our wake on the Stono River in Hollywood, South Carolina!
"Exactly 14 months to the day from when we began this incredible adventure, we completed America’s Great Loop after traveling 11,371 miles, exploring 3 countries, visiting 20 states, navigating 192 locks, and stamping our National Park passport book more than 30 times — all while experiencing the beauty, history, and hospitality that make the Great Loop such a remarkable journey.
"Our goal from the beginning was simple: explore as much as possible, enjoy time together, and have fun. We intentionally left behind the structure, schedules, lists, and planning of everyday life in exchange for a more relaxed 'wing it' approach — and it did not disappoint.
"What started as a dream became a once-in-a-lifetime journey filled with adventure, learning, challenges, and tremendous blessings along the way. Terri and I not only strengthened our relationship with each other but also deepened our relationship with God. We were truly blessed through the men’s and women’s Loop Bible study groups and by worshiping in the churches we visited.
"A sincere thank you to our family, friends, fellow Loopers, marinas, locals, Aspen Power Catamarans, and everyone who supported, encouraged, and hosted us throughout this journey. The boating community truly restored our faith in humanity and made this experience extraordinary.
"A special thank you to the crews of Santosha, Lie Lo, Genansi, Shorebilly II, Andromeda, and Dreamer — you are all amazing, and you made this journey unforgettable. The memories, stories, photos and friendships will remain with us forever.
"We’ll be keeping an eye out for the next wave of Loopers as you pass our home (Captain Kidd I) on the Stono River just South of Charleston. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything or simply want to say hello."

Congratulations to Donald & Dora, who completed their Loop on January 21, 2025 aboard their Greenline 39, HARBOR LIGHTS.
"The Great Loop Voyage was the most AMAZING dream voyage of a lifetime. As experienced boaters, we experienced pleasures far beyond the average day on the water. We began our voyage in 2021 after researching and planning since 2016. Bought a new Greenline39 Hybrid/Diesel Yacht and got underway with our senior Siberians and cat. Took our time with no completion date in mind. It was our early retirement 'to do' bucket list. There were amazing scenic views of sunrises, sunsets, aquatic wildlife, met friendly boaters and comrades throughout the Canadian 100+ locks system. Yes, there were invigorating, challenging times and then there were 'piece-of-cake' times. The AGL had surprises around every water way. Those of us who have completed the voyage have memories we can never forget through our videos and photos....for those of you who are still wandering, sharing our stories and experiences are never ending. Crossing our wake in 2025 was bittersweet, we wanted to keep going but alas we needed to embark on our next Bucket List waiting for us. We checked this fabulous adventure off the list! Would we do it again? Absolutely! If you have the chance to do the AGL...DO IT!"

"After years of planning and anticipation and finally embarking on our Great Loop journey, it’s hard to believe we have completed it! Our days were filled with wonderful adventures as well as both physical and mental challenges. Waking up to stunning sunrises, ending the day with spectacular sunsets, cruising through the crystal clear waters of Canada and Michigan, beautiful fall colors as the leaves changed along the rivers and iconic views of large cities and small towns were just a few of the highlights we were treated to along the route. The support and friendship of fellow Loopers enhanced our experience as we shared adventures and stories along the way. The value of the AGLCA cannot be overstated and we referred to their resources on a daily basis. We are both proud and grateful to be part of this community.
"What’s next for us? Our capable and reliable boat, Indigo, will have a well-deserved facelift and overall maintenance in Charleston for the next few months. Our adventures continue on land as we look forward to upcoming travels and catching up with friends and family. We will continue to cruise while flying our Gold Burgee, hoping to connect with the Looper community on new journeys and adventures. As we complete our Great Loop, we are not only grateful for the spectacular sights we saw but also for the many wonderful people we met along the way. We hope to see you on the water!"

"What an amazing journey! We completed 6,600 miles, 2 countries, 20 states, 73 marina stays, 62 free walls and anchorages. From the people we met, and the places we went, it couldn't have been better. Our relationship is stronger than ever after truly enjoying each other's company. We were fortunate enough to be able to see Washington D.C., New York City, Niagra Falls, Kennedy Space Center, Kittyhawk, the Florida Keys, The Welland Canal and alot of Lake Superior. We can't wait to spend this summer exploring the Trent-Severn Waterway, the North Channel and Georgian Bay in Lake Huron and possibly going all the way to Montreal. We spent 15 years talking about doing this trip and it did NOT disappoint! We want to do another Loop probably in a year or two and explore many different things. We learned so much on our trip and can't wait to keep going. Thank you to everyone that joined us, you all truly made it special for us. To the new friends that we made, see you soon on the water!!"

"Loopers Rivermist, Y Knot X, Katinsky, State of Grace and a host of others made the trip enjoyable as we shared company along the way. The whole boating community is filled with wonderful people. We were welcomed wherever we went.
"The AGLCA was a great resource and we started our Loop from the Norfolk Rendezvous and passed it almost a year to the day.

"What an 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟏𝟒-𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲!
"Arriving to be greeted by friends and family was truly something special — a moment we’ll never forget. The love, support, and warm welcome meant more to us than words can express. It was a real blessing and the perfect way to celebrate the end of this incredible chapter. ❤️
"Every single day brought something new — a new place, a new challenge, a new perspective on life. Even after 41 years of marriage, this adventure brought us closer, tested our limits, and reminded us what we’re truly capable of.
"This wasn’t a vacation… it was an adventure — one that required resilience, patience, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. Along the way, we made lifelong friends and experienced places we may have never otherwise discovered. That alone made it all worth it.
"Never underestimate what you can do when you set your mind to it. With God as our guide, we never felt alone and always had the confidence to keep moving forward. 🙏
