1994 Bayliner 4788 Pilothouse — Great Loop Proven — $149,000
This is not a boat that has been sitting at the dock waiting for someone to sort it out. We have personally cruised her approximately 600 hours, including the Gulf Coast, Florida, East Coast, New York, Erie Canal, Canada, Trent-Severn, Great Lakes, Chicago and the inland river system southbound toward the Gulf.
She has proven herself to be an extremely comfortable cruising and liveaboard boat, and we have continually maintained and upgraded her with reliability and extended cruising in mind.
Twin Hino W06TI 310 HP diesels — approximately 5,900 hours. The engines run well, oil analysis has been good, and maintenance has been kept current.
Recent mechanical and cruising upgrades include a new Phasor 11 kW generator installed in 2025 with approximately 150 hours, lithium house battery system, Victron charging, solar, new inverter, Starlink, engine-room and exterior CCTV cameras, new water heater, all engine hoses and belts, sanitation hoses, stateroom air conditioning, pilot house air conditioning, salon air conditioning and numerous other upgrades.
The cooling system has received significant attention, including coolers/intercoolers, hoses, clamps and belts. The starboard turbo has also been replaced, and the injectors have been cleaned and rebuilt just before starting the loop in November 2025. The bottom was redone in November 2025.
Electronics include a new Simrad NSS12 EVO3S MFD with US and Canada chart card, AIS targets displayed on the Simrad, integration with the Raymarine autopilot, and an Icom M510 VHF and 2 Raymarine VHF radios. The boat is set up for serious cruising rather than simply marina use.
One of the things we have enjoyed most about the 4788 is the interior. The layout offers a tremendous amount of living space for a boat of this size, with a large salon, galley, separate pilothouse, multiple sleeping areas and two heads.
The interior has been significantly refreshed and shows particularly well. Updates include newer salon furniture, newer carpet, power roller blinds, updated entertainment/audio equipment, newer mattress, heated towel bar and other comfort upgrades.
She also carries a 2025 West Marine tender with 25 HP Yamaha outboard with electric start and is set up for extended cruising.
Typical performance is approximately:
- 14 mph at 2,400 rpm
- 16 mph at approximately 2,450 rpm
- 17 mph at approximately 2,550 rpm
Cosmetically, I want to represent the boat accurately. She is a 1994, not a new boat. The exterior shines and presents better than most boats of her age, but there are areas of age-related gelcoat wear and places where the finish is not perfect when viewed closely. From a normal viewing distance she presents extremely well.
The interior, in my opinion, is one of the boat's strongest attributes and is in very nice condition. Everything aboard is currently functioning as it should, and we have worked hard to stay ahead of maintenance rather than defer it.
This boat would be particularly well suited to someone preparing for the Great Loop, extended ICW cruising, or seasonal liveaboard use. Much of the expensive work necessary to turn an older 4788 into a dependable cruising boat has already been completed.
We are selling only because we are ready to move to our next boat.
Asking price: $149,000
The boat will be available in the Gulf Shores / Mobile area- we are currently southbound in the rivers.
I have extensive additional photos and can provide maintenance information, upgrade history and available oil-analysis information to serious buyers.
