2004 Meridian 408 for sale
- Additional information
- Immediately after purchase, I knew I would be soloing for most of the loop so i added a DockMate remote control device. This allows the captain to operate the bow and stern thrusters and the transmissions, forward and reverse. It is amazing how this enables the operator to be anywhere on the boat (or on the dock!) and easily maneuver it. The next addition was a new Highfield 10' RIB dinghy with a 7 HP Tohatsu outboard. I purchased it from Port Inflatables on Long Island and had them deliver and install it so it sits on the swim platform on its side to travel well. It is fastened with the Weaver stainless steel davit system and has a Weaver swivel mount on the transom to allow the motor to swivel 90 degrees so you don't have to remove it. Very convenient. Also purchased the Weaver stainless steel wench to allow it to be pulled up to the standing position with little effort. I bought a new Mantus 65 lb. anchor (the 55 lb. unit was recommended) to replace the standard 35 lb unit (which is now in the storage chest on the swim platform as a backup/stern anchor). I also added 200 foot of galvanized 3/8" chain and 150 foot of 3/4" line for a robust ground tackle system. It was then too late to start the loop from New York so I headed down to Solomons Island in the Chesapeake Bay to have all new electronics installed. I am from DC so I knew of Washburn's Boat Yard. I had them install all new Garmin products: a 12" chart plotter, back-up camera, new radar, additional depth finder, auto pilot, etc. Also added was new Com VHF radio with AIS send/receive with new antenna. I also had Gary Gateau with Drum Point Marine come onboard and do the 1000 hour service. The big thing he discovered was that the after coolers on both Cummins 6 BTAs (many mechanics favor these over the newer QSBs for ease of maintenance, availability and price of parts, and cost of maintaining) had not been maintained. The brass cores could not be separated from the housing. I had him order and install all new units (ker-ching!). He changed oil in both engines and in the generator (Onan 11.5 KW diesel) and pronounced all in good shape. Gary also replaced the impellers in the water pumps. Both of the vacuum pumps in the heads have been rebuilt. In the fall of 2024 I headed south to Key West. While there I purchased and installed a EPIRB on the front and a PLB for my life jacket. I goofed off in the keys and Fort Myers for the winter and then in May of 2025 I headed across Florida on the Okeechobee waterway to Stuart and back up the east coat to start the loop. I completed the loop in January of 2026 at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River. One of the two AC units in the salon had been replaced and I have replaced the other salon unit and the one in the aft cabin. The fourth AC in the Vbunk is working well and may have been replaced. All four units are reverse cycle so they heat well also. This boat is a complete turn-key unit. Also included in the sale are all of the tools I purchased for the boat and bunches of spare parts and filters. Included as well are all of the unbreakable dishes, plastic glasses, flatware, and cooking utensils. There are two auto inflating life jackets, two water-sport types of PFDs, and maybe 10 of the bright orange minimum spec type units. I have just had the seat cushions on the bridge recovered. The bridge and cockpit are fully enclosed with canvas and isinglass and are in very good condition. The bottom had just been painted when I bought the boat and I have had it maintained by divers during the loop. I also had Washburn's replace the cutlass bearings and the dripless shaft seals. One of the seals started leaking so I had them both replaced again during the trip down the rivers. I just had the exterior of the boat washed, compounded, polished, and waxed to the waterline. She shines like a new boat. Just had the bottom maintained by a commercial dive company. I have replaced all of the bulbs I could get at with new LED bulbs. Both of the pumps for the showers have been replaced. Oil changed every 250 hours. There is a Splindide washer/dryer combo from new that works but washes small loads and only drys partially. Fresh water wash-down bow and stern. Shower with hot and cold water on swim platform. The 50 amp electric cord is on an electric cable reel. There is a Reverso system to make changing the oil in the engines and generator a snap. I had the automatic fire suppression system checked and certified in Ft Myers last year. There is a new Starlink mini system installed for awesome wifi anywhere on the loop. Thanks for your interest. Jim
