Braveheart Florida Loop

#8 - May 20/Day 6
Posted on 6/7/2017 12:12 PM
We have visited Naples before but were unaware that it was the original home to the Calusa Indians [also called the Shell Indians] until the early 1700's and then to the Seminoles in the mid 19th century.  Southwest Florida is rich in human and natural history.  The first European visitor here was the Spanish explorer, Ponce de Leon, in the sixteenth century, and many famous figures of history have followed since, including Teddy Roosevelt.  This community abounds in museums, art centers, history events, great restaurants and natural beauty.

Because of friends and family who live in this beautiful area of Florida, we opted to spend two nights in Naples.  The first night at Naples Sailing and Yacht Club and the second night at the Naples Yacht Club. Both great properties with wonderful amenities and generous reciprocity programs with many other Yacht Clubs.

Tin CityThe Tin City area on the Naples waterfront is filled with shops and wonderful restaurants.  Understandable that most eating places concentrate on the fresh seafood that is abundant right outside the back door and so picturesque.  Lots of marinas back up to this unique area. In fact, we went for dinner and found another Rosborough boat named "Pilgrim" docked right outside.  If we had known how to get in contact with them we would have reached out.

We live in this area of Florida and I feel we are spoiled because of so many boating opportunities in our own back yard. Visitors to the Southwest area of Florida will find so many little anchorages and marinas to enjoy that this could be a spot in which you would want to spend several weeks.

Tomorrow we are only traveling about 25 miles but wiill be headed to Marco Island. That will be our last stop on the mainland before we start our journey to the Keys, and because this could incur 85+ miles of open water, we want to make certain we select a favorable weather window. We will keep you posted.
