To get to Mechanicville, we had to travel through lock C-1 and C-2. We had a bit of a struggle through the first lock. When we radioed to request passage through, the lockmaster said there was a barge inside and it would be about15 minutes. There was a wall that we tied to until the barge came out. Well, when the barge came out, it created a force that pulled our boat from the wall. I'm struggling to hang on. Meanwhile Toms' chatting with the worker on the barge about our headsets. I'm yelling, "I can't hang on". He finally comes to offer a hand. Instead of waiting a bit for the water to calm, we entered the lock. A couple of things happened, we crashed into the lock wall and Tom threw his headset overboard. I couldn't get my headset to work and in the midst of the turmoil he yanked his headset off and thought he threw it to the floor. He actually threw it out the window. SPLASH!!! BUMMER!! We had to order a new one and it wouldn't be in until Wednesday so we had to stay an additional day. On a positive note, we did get all the laundry done and the dock was free.
Mechanicville name comes from occupations of early residents.
When we received the headset, we left to go to Fort Edward.
