Safe Boating Series (7 Sessions)
Saturdays outlined below at 11:00 am eastern
The registration for this webinar series has reached maximum capacity but the webinar recordings will be available to all members shortly after each live session has occurred.  AGLCA members can use the discount code to watch the recordings for free.

This series is being presented free of charge and is for AGLCA members only. Our intention is to help some of our newer members focus on safety while bringing a refresher course to those who have been long-term boaters. This course does not result in the certificate required in some states, but it is great preparation to take your state course. It also allows us to take a deep dive into some of the more important topics that aren't covered at length during a safe boating certificate course. The agenda is as follows:

January 16 - Life Jackets/Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
-Types of PFDs
-Labeling system (new system vs. old system)
-Kids and PFDs
-Pets & PFDs
-How many PFDs should you have on board?
-Maintenance of inflatables

Weather Information for Crossing the Gulf
Chris Parker, a marine weather expert from Marine Weather Center and an AGLCA sponsor, will provide weather information about crossing the Gulf of Mexico.

There are many sources of weather information, so Chris will focus this session on explaining why weather forecasts are often wrong, particularly in this geographic area, so Loopers know when not to trust the forecast they're being given by some of the resources available. This includes:

--diurnal seabreeze / land-breeze pattern
--snapshot timing of forecast models
--generalization of NOAA text forecasts
--forecast model lags in predicting seas in response to changes in wind

Chris will also present real examples of each of the above, and explain how AGLCA members might improve decision-making based on these factors.
