Just what IS the Down East Loop you may ask?

Whether you're looking for cruising alternatives because of of the Illinois Waterway closure, or you're a Gold Looper looking for your next adventure, or you're just curious about the Down East Loop, this day-long seminar is for you!

Seminar Presenters Dave & Claudia Fuller (Stillwaters II), Mark & Denise Gillespie (Island Office), and Vicki McGahee (Confetti) will provide the information you need to plan, safely cruise and enjoy this spectacular 2,700-statute mile Loop through the Canadian Maritimes; New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia, as well as the coast of New England and New York.


         Session Descriptions:


Overview, Champlain ~ The shortest segment with about 250 miles, this session will include a general overview of the Down East Loop as well as the cruise up the Champlain Canal, Lake Champlain, the Richelieu River to St. Lawrence.  Presented by Mark & Denise Gillespie.

St. Lawrence River ~ This session begins at three rivers and covers Quebec City, Tadoussac, rounding the Gaspe Peninsula, Bonaventure Island and Grande Riviere, covering about 500 miles.  Presented by Vicki McGahee.

Maritimes: New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island ~ Picking up from Grande Riviere, this session will take you across the Bay of Chaleur to Shippagan, New Brunswick, on to Prince Edward Island, stopping at St. Peters at the south entrance to Bras d'or Lakes, covering about 460 miles. Presented by Dave Fuller.

Nova Scotia ~ Covering approximately 460 miles, this session covers cruising Bras d'or Lakes, the south shore of Nova Scotia to Halifax, to Yarmouth, where you will cross the Bay of Maine and re-enter the United States.  Presented by Vicki McGahee.

Maine to Cape Cod ~ This session will be a 400 mile cruise from the coast of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, leading you to the Cape Cod Canal.  Presented by Mark & Denise Gillespie.

Cape Cod to Waterford ~ Learn all about cruising the waters of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Long Island Sound, New York City and up the Hudson River back to Waterford. Included in this 400 mile segment, you'll also enjoy side trips to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Islands.  Presented by Dave Fuller.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Overview, Champlain
  • 9:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Break
  • 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. St. Lawrence River
  • 10:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Break
  • 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Maritimes
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lunch
  • 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Nova Scotia
  • 1:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. Break
  • 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Maine to Cape Cod
  • 2:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Break
  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Cape Cod to Waterford

Registration is $125 per person and includes lunch.
