Great Loop Segment: Keys to Jacksonville

This segment of the loop includes 504 miles from the Keys to Jacksonville, FL. Leaving the Keys and up as far as Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, watch out for cruise ships. Once you get closer to the mainland of Florida, the ICW will be busy with pleasure boats during the weekends, and you may decide to travel during the week and plan to dock the boat for the weekend to explore.

You will be traveling on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway as you head up the coast towards Jacksonville. Do not blindly follow the magenta line on your chart plotter, because there are likely to be areas on some chart plotters that will be way off the route. Use the magenta line as a guide but pay close attention to buoys/markers because they are moved frequently to mark the best water.  Make sure your depth finder is properly calibrated and set appropriate alarm depths. Check upcoming waters on a daily basis for the most up-to-date navigational information.
